The Blog On MSI Ice Breaker

In just a few days time I will be attending my second Blog On conference at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. My first one was last year, and I absolutely loved it! As soon as tickets were available for this year I made sure I got mine – this one sells out fast.

The day is full of laughter, sessions full of useful advice, great brands to work with, a little wine and cake…what more could you want? They really do think of everything – including an ice breaker so that attendees can get to know each other before the day. I have decided to take part in the fun, and it might answer some questions you have about me.

Cashmere and Confetti About MeIf you had to describe yourself in three words?  I would say: funny, passionate, adventurous

How long have you been blogging and what made you start? I have been blogging on and off for a few years now but it is only recently that I have been really focused on it. I started as a curious teenager and came back as a woman with a voice.

What is the weirdest food you have ever eaten? I would say it would have to be shark

Who would be your 3 perfect dinner party guests (dead or alive) and why? Alan Rickman, David Attenborough and Eddie Izzard…and if that needs an explanation then we cannot be friends.

If you could live in any sitcom, which one would it be and why? I would switch from sitcom to drama and say Suits. I love the show and living with the characters would be so much fun.

Name a famous person you have met The last famous person I met was Stephen K Amos after his show in January.

Which social media platform best describes your personality and why? Instagram probably best represents me, for the creativity, quick snapshot of a moment and the ability to share with the text and hashtags underneath.

What picture do you have on lock screen on your phone / computer? A quote from the astronaut Chris Hadfield about preparing yourself for success and who you want to be. It reminds me to keep pushing forward.

How many pairs of shoes do you own? 20+.  I really like shoes, and you need something appropriate for every occasion and season.

What period of time from the past would you most like to have lived? I think it would be really interesting to see how things were in the nineteenth century or earlier…as long as I remained healthy!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? I would love to visit South America, and fully experience the beautiful sights.

What is your guilty pleasure? I do not think I have any guilty pleasures. I like to enjoy things in life and I generally make healthy choices when it comes to food, drink etc.

What is your favourite tipple? I don’t drink much, but the occasional cocktail always feels like a treat.

If you had a magic lamp and a Genie, what would be your three wishes? Peace, good health and happiness.

Are you attending Blog On this year on 1st May? If you are, join in with the Linky hosted by Chealsea Mamma and answer the questions too!

The British Tag

Cashmere and Confetti The British Tag

I saw this tag over on Little World of Beka, and she offered an open invitation to anyone that wanted to do the tag. I love the reaction that people, usually American, have to my accent, or to learning that I am British. The American friends and acquaintances that I do have are baffled but charmed by so may British things, and I thought that this would be a fun tag to do.

1. How many cups of tea do you have a day? How many sugars?
I usually have 2-3 cups of tea a day, but it can be more if I am at work. No sugar for me, I am sweet enough 🙂

2. Favourite part of your roast?
It has to be stuffing. Yorkshire puddings and gravy are a close second though.

3. Favourite dunking biscuit?
It’s either a good rich tea biscuit, a digestive or a hobnob. You need a biscuit that will absorb the tea without breaking into your cup.

4. Favourite quintessentially British pastime?
Tea and cake, or afternoon tea! I love both equally.

5. Favourite word?
Pretty much any British version of swear words…but I love old fashioned words such as golly.

6. Cockney rhyme slang?
As I am not Cockney I never use them, and I cannot even tell you what many of them are.

7. Favourite sweet?
Rosy Apples! I have loved them since I was a little girl, or sherbet…sherbet is pretty good too.

8. What would your pub be called?
The Wanderer, pretty much sums me up.

9. No# 1 British person?
David Attenborough.

10. Favourite shop/restaurant?
Betty’s Tea Room for afternoon tea and Joules for clothing

11. What British song pops into your head?
Anything by Queen, or Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles as that is one of my favourite songs.

12. Marmite?
Love it, I have even tried Marmite infused cheese and rice cakes.

I don’t have anyone specific to tag, but if you read this and end up doing it let me know below and I’d love to read them!

Essence UK Launch Party

On Sunday I was lucky enough to attend the launch party to celebrate Essence’s arrival here in the UK. I’ve been listening to Breige over at Rare Opal gushing about Essence cosmetics for a few months now, so I was pretty eager to see what all the fuss was about.

The launch was held at The Studio in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. It is a fantastic location to host an event anyway, but Essence and Flipside PR had completely transformed the room into a make up lovers paradise. There was a 2 meter display stand full of make up to be investigated, as well as areas specifically devoted to nails, lips, eyes and face. These areas were perfect for trying out products and seeing how others were planning to use each item – and it’s a great way to get new ideas and inspirations.

I was really pleased to hear that Essence do not test on animals, and that they routinely inspect their suppliers. I also love that they market their products to those that are young at heart, not just teenage girls – it is so refreshing! I was also really impressed to hear that each year Essence will change 50% of it’s product line, ensuring that there is always something new, and that you can keep up with the latest trends at an affordable price.

As well as playing with all of the delightful make up, there was also the chance to get a manicure from the Pamper Puff Girls. I decided to go for a summery coral fittingly called Off to Miami. I have been searching for the perfect coral nail polish for a while, and this certainly fits the bill. I have been wearing this for 3 days without a chip.

I took home lots of goodies to experiment and play with – but that is a post for another day. You will just have to trust me for now when I say that they are really, really good. If you cannot wait and just want to try everything for yourself, there is an Essence stand in Manchester Arndale, as well as one in Westfields Shepards Bush. They will also be in Wilkonsons/Wilkos stores from July.

Thanks to Essence UK and Flipside PR for hosting such a great event!

Mothers Day

Here in Britain, it is Mothers Day, or Mothering Sunday for the more traditional folks. I could not let today go by without a mention of my mother, and how thankful I am to have her. As a family we have had a pretty rocky 12 months, my mum was really sick for half of it, and at times it was touch and go whether she would make it or not.

Thankfully, she is well on the road to recovery and is getting stronger as every day goes by. The past 12 months have brought us so much closer, and has made me realise how important it is to enjoy the time that you have with the people you love the most. We all take things for granted, but I am making a conscious effort to be thankful for all of the little things in life.

For us, today is just about appreciating the fact that we can still enjoy time together, and not taking anything for granted. So for all the mums out there, Happy Mother Day!

Beauty Sleep

I love my bed. I really, really do. Although I am generally a night owl, and it can be difficult at times to convince myself that I need to stop working and get to bed, once I am in there I do not want to get out. The only thing that makes me even happier to be in my bed is to have great bedding.

Beautiful, soft bedding is one of those little luxuries that just seems to make everything better. Here are some of my favourites to add a little luxury to your beauty sleep:

Both of these are by Ralph Lauren, and although they are expensive, they are certainly worth it.

This summery offering from Joules is perfect for reminding yourself that summer is on it’s way.

This beautiful set from Laura Ashley is colorful enough without being overpowering. It always makes me think of exotic locations, and nothing starts the day of better than being surrounded by beauty.

Do What You Love

I’m back! The past few weeks seem to have gone by in such a blur, and it has been hard to find any time to sit down and really think about what I should write about.

Work has been insanely busy but at the same time it has been so rewarding and it has challenged me in ways I never thought it would. In the past few months, I have gone from being a regular team member (although there were only two people on our team), to being promoted and losing the person that had been my manager. There have been so many things that I have had to learn how to do, without anyone to show me. I have certainly learnt a lot about myself through this process, and thankfully I love my job even more know than I originally did.

Passion has always been a driving force for me. Although money helps, I would rather do something I love for little money, rather than something that bores me or that I hate for more money. From the moment I started working for my current company, I knew I had found the career for me. The role and location may change, but as long as I feel passionate about what I am doing, then I am happy.

lovewhatyoudoThese are two amazing prints that I purchased from Jackie over on her Etsy store. They are so beautiful, and I cannot wait to get them framed and hung on my wall. Jackie has so many stunning designs and they arrived quickly and so well packaged. It always worries me if I purchase items that need to be posted by air mail, but these arrived safe and sound.

There are some big things beginning to happen over here, and as soon as I can let you know more I will. I cannot wait to be able to reveal more about it all.
